Code B1185 signals a short circuit in the passenger airbag second stage squib circuit (SRS system). The most common cause is damaged wires or electrical connectors in this circuit, less often a faulty airbag module or central SRS controller. Due to the critical safety implications, diagnosis and repair should only be entrusted to an authorized service center or a specialist experienced with SRS systems.
Symptoms
SRS/Airbag warning light on the dashboard is on or flashing. The airbag system may be completely disabled. The passenger airbag (2nd stage) may not deploy during a collision. In some vehicles (GM), disturbances in the audio system operation may occur.
